Andy Palmer, generální ředitel automobilky Aston Martin, se v rozhovoru pro Autonews rozpovídal o finanční situaci tradičního britského výrobce sportovních vozidel. Podle jeho slov je situace více než znepokojující. Aston Martin se ve 2. a 3. kvartálu propadl do hluboké ztráty a od roku 2018, co je na burze, se jeho akcie propadly o 80 %.

V podstatě jedinou záchranou je zcela nový model DBX. Aston Martin ho představil nejprve v Šanghaji a následně na autosalonu v Los Angeles. Právě na těchto trzích Aston očekává největší prodeje. Model DBX byl podle Palmera navrhován s ohledem na čínské a americké zákazníky.

Palmer říká, že při plném 12měsíčním vytížení je Aston Martin schopen dodat až 5000 modelů DBX, což by s ostatními sportovními modely mělo v roce 2020 dohromady činit mezi 6000 až 6500 kusy roční produkce. Rok 2020 však nebude pro DBX kompletní. Rozjezd výroby si vyžádá několik měsíců.

DBX je první SUV značky Aston Martin. Pohání ho motor V8 4,0 l od AMG s výkonem 405 kW a točivým momentem 700 Nm. Na stovce je vůz za 4,5 sekundy a pokračovat může na maximální rychlost 291 km/h. Prozatím jde o jedinou motorizaci, ale v polovině roku bychom se měli dočkat také elektrifikované varianty.

Pro nové SUV byla postavena speciální výrobní linka v Saint Athan ve Walesu. Zákazníci by se měli rekrutovat z řad majitelů vozů jako Range Rover Sport nebo Porsche Cayenne. Cena základního provedení se v přepočtu pohybuje okolo 4,7 milionu korun.
