Ono se to nezdá, ale současná generace „základního“ Astonu Martin V8 Vantage je na trhu už od roku 2005. Vůz prodělal několik dílčích modernizací, ale už to prostě chtělo přijít s něčím novým. Teď je tu zcela nová generace na nové platformě a se slibovaným motorem od Mercedesu, kterým není nic jiného než dvěma turby přeplňovaný osmiválec 4,0 l z kupé AMG GT.

Nová platforma vychází z nové architektury pro ostatní větší Astony, ale zhruba 70 % dílů je nových. Výsledkem je suchá hmotnost 1530 kg, což je o zhruba 100 kg méně než u minulé generace v základním provedení. Platforma je hliníková, ale na panely karoserie byla použita tradiční ocel. Tady se zřejmě kouká na cenu.

Čtyřlitrový osmiválec od Mercedesu má výkon 375 kW (510 k) v 6000 min^-1 a točivý moment 685 Nm v 2000-5000 min^-1. Aston Martin si pohonnou jednotku naladil sám. Výkon putuje přes osmistupňový automat ZF a karbonový kardan na nový zadní elektronicky řízený diferenciál. Základní dynamické parametry 0-100 km/h za 3,6 s a 314 km/h jako nejvyšší rychlost budou jistě stačit.

Soupeř je jasný. Tenhle Aston Martin V8 Vantage bude bojovat o přízeň zákazníků s vrcholnými modely Porsche 911. Základní německá cena 154 000 eur (cca čtyři miliony korun) nevypadá vůbec špatně, když vezmeme v úvahu i velmi bohatou základní výbavu. Automobilka ale počítá s tím, že zákazníci budou utrácet i za individuální doplňky, exkluzivní barvy, potahy a větší kola. První dodávky zákazníkům začnou ve druhém čtvrtletí příštího roku a časem dorazí i kabriolet.
